How I Spend My Weekends

Ahhhh, the weekend. My favorite couple of days. In the past I would spend them with family and/or friends – shopping, relaxing, going to the movies, checking out the latest on Netflix or enjoying a good meal together.

Since we are on lockdown my weekends have been a bit more relaxed. Not being able to see friends and family in the outside world has forced me to find things around the house to do. Here is how I spend my weekends:

  1. Writing: Whether it be the book I’m working on or writing a blog post for this website, I am always finding some time to do a bit of writing here and there.
  2. Reading: My list of books to read continues to grow so during the weekend I am able to sit down with a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy some reading time. I also do some online blog and article reading as well.
  3. Watch TV: With all the streaming services that we have I am bound to find a movie or show that interests me and inspires me to pop some popcorn and watch a movie.
  4. Cooking and baking: This isn’t something I do as often, however, something about the weekend makes me want to bake brownies.
  5. Go through emails: I will never reach inbox zero and I have accepted this fact but I do like to go through, respond to and organize my emails. I like that I can schedule responses to be sent during the week so that if someone replies I can reply during a time that is more convenient for me.
  6. Cleaning and Organizing: Even though the weekends feel like they go by so quickly, the days often seem a bit longer (in my opinion) so I don’t feel so dragged down by doing a bit of cleaning and organizing. It helps me feel like I accomplished something.

What do you enjoy doing on the weekend? Let us know in the comments.

Singles Swag Subscription Box Review December 2020 with Discount Code

I really liked this box and I’m excited to use everything in it.

Retail value $142

  1. Mollie Jacob 2020 Planner and Calendar (Retail Value $24): This planner is slick and super cute. I like that there are lines to write on in the pages. I would totally make use of it but I already purchased a calendar for 2020 so I went ahead and gifted this to my sister so that it is used. Even though this planner is super cute, I wouldn’t pay $24 for it.
  2. Belgian Boys Choco Stroopwafel (Retail Value $4): I have never used this before but I heard they are great. I look forward to using it. I love that we get some sort of new snack in nearly every box. Definitely think this is worth $4.
  3. We live like this Pamper You Relaxing Body Lotion (Retail Value $12): The scent of this lotion is very relaxing and I think it would be perfect for spa days at home. Worth the $!2 price.
  4. Sienna Mae Blakely Wallet with Detachable Writs Strap (Retail Value $38): Now this! This is super cute. I love the color and the zipper detailing. I am very picky about my wallets but this is definitely something that I would use. Totally worth the $38 price tag.
  5. Gemma Simone Aqua Beaded Lariat Necklace (Retail Value $64): This necklace is cute but not something I would normally pick. The $64 price tag seems a little much for the simplicity of the necklace but it is made with two layers of rose gold so there is that to consider if you purchase this.

On Grief

So this post is going to be a bit different than the ones that I usually post. If you are triggered by death please skip over this as I wouldn’t want to cause you any sorrow.

Over the weekend we had much to celebrate. It was a time of thanks and it was also my nieces 13th birthday. Though we didn’t get to celebrate in the normal sense, we were able to give to each other in other ways as well as celebrate my niece.

Unfortunately, the day after my nieces birthday we received an unexpected phone call. One that you know may one day come but comes unexpectedly. We were all shocked to find out that my Stepdad had passed away. Though he was not my blood relative, he did raise me as his own, as he was in my life from the time I was 2 years old.

This news has been difficult to deal with. I feel for my siblings as they lost their Father and I know to well that feeling – a few years ago my biological Father passed away.

It is something that you know will eventually happen but there is never a way to fully prepare for it. For me I am currently going between anger, shock and grief. I also sit at times and think of the happy memories that we as a family created.

What makes this time even more difficult for me personally is that it also brings up memories of when my biological passed away and having to plan his funeral. It have been having a hard time separating the two because I am going through what feels like the same things over again. I know that this shall pass – as it is not something I have been thinking about 24/7 but it does come up and makes me cry even more.

I have been staying up late thinking about my Stepdad – memories that we have, his voice, his mannerism and much more. Even as I sit here writing I am thinking of times in the past and my tears are freely flowing.

I have always had difficulty sleeping off and on throughout my adult life but lately it has been even more. I worry that I will get news of someone else passing away and it swells up inside me causing me to toss and turn.

I have moments in my days in which I just start crying and it is tough to get my mind in a positive space. The grief just overwhelms me and I can’t think straight. I feel lost at times as I feel numb and unable to think straight. These feelings are feelings I wish upon nobody. It is life-altering and not something that you can really just push aside (well in my case) and carry on about your day. For me I have to really just allow myself to feel the grief before I am able to move on.

When you lose someone close to you remember that you are allowed to feel all the feelings that come up. For everyone that may be different so please let others that are grieving to deal with the death in their own way, however, also be as supportive as you can be.

Reading, Watching and Listening

Being in the house means more time to read, watch and listen to things (for me anyways) so here is what I have been up to lately

Reading: I have been reading Joy’s Way A Map for the Transformational Journey: An Introduction to the Potentials for Healing with Body Energies by W. Brugh Joy. It talks about healing the body.

Watching: When I was younger I wanted to be a fashion designer so whenever I discover something that has to do with it I make sure to dive right in. Lately we have been watching Next in Fashion and I have been enjoying seeing all the creative takes the designers have on the challenges that they get. The show starts out with designers in teams of two and eventually (after some eliminations) the designers are separated and have to design on their own. This has been a fun season to watch.

Listening: I have been listening to a lot of relaxing/meditative type of music. Singh Kaur Radio on Pandora has been my go-to lately. So relaxing.

It’s time for holiday shopping again. Here are some ideas for the women (and girls) in your life.

Beauty products: If you know their staple beauty products you can surprise them with a re-up on their favorites. For the holidays many companies also offer either gifts with purchase or gift sets. Ask a salesperson and/or check out any specials they may have available.

Gift cards/gift certificates: If you know that they frequent a store often, get them a gift card. This can be a main gift – depending on the amount that you get – or they make great stocking stuffers as well. Gift certificates to their favorite spa can also work depending on the restrictions happening in their area.

Techie stuff: If they have been hinting about the newest fitness watch or iPhone and you’re sure of the size and color, these are some things that you can purchase so they don’t have to purchase it themselves. A new iPad or Kindle can work for adults and teens if that is something they are into as well.

Perfume: Now this is not the easiest thing to buy but if you notice they are running low on their favorite perfume and you know they would purchase it again, give it a shot. A lot of brands offer gift sets during the holidays so you may be able to snag something that has a full and mini version of it.

Fitness stuff: For the hardcore fitness woman see if there is anything that they have been hinting about – maybe they need a new yoga mat or weight set. For stocking stuffers re-up on their favorite vitamins and supplements.

Licensed merchandise: This is more for kids and teens but depending on the woman it may work for them as well. If the kid/teen is into say anime, get them clothes or accessories that you think they would enjoy. Now I know some Disney fanatics (adult women) so you may be able to find something unique for them as well.

Get cash back when you shop with Rakuten

With holiday shopping in full force and online shopping being even more popular right now I thought I would share how I make cash back while I shop during the holidays as well as throughout the year. I use an app called Rakuten (formerly known as eBates).

Rakuten shows you different sales that you may not know about as well as telling you if the websites you shop at offer cash back. Just a simple search in the Rakuten search bar tells you right away. For select stores they even offer in person cash back.

My favorite way to use Rakuten is via their Google Chrome extension. When you arrive at a website to shop at it automatically tells you if that website has a discount and/or cash back offer. It is very convenient.

If you sign up for their emails they will send you special announcements as well as let you know if your favorite stores are offering double cash back – which is even better for you. It is always great to get cash back from shopping through Rakuten.
