Flashback Friday’s: Episode 10

flashback fridays

Hey there! Thank you for stopping in and reading today. Welcome to another episode of Flashback Friday’s where I share with y’all about what I had going on during my week. I can’t believe I actually made it to Episode 10 without skipping any Fridays. This has probably been the only thing that I have actually been pretty consistent with when it comes to blogging. *WOO HOO* I was hoping that I would have been more successful with NaBloPoMo Posts this month but things do not always go as planned. And that is quite alright. I have been working on some drafts lately so next month there should be more of a variety of posts for y’all to read.

During the weekend my niece slept over so. It is always wonderful to spend time with her – she is growing up so fast. She sang songs from her favorite movies/shows as well as got me to watch over 2 hours of My Little Pony Equestria Girls. I look forward to having kids one day but having a niece and nephew is such a wonderful experience and good practice sometimes too. I love them so much and want to spoil the heck out of them most of the time.

Now that I’m working again I don’t have time to binge watch Netflix on random days of the week, but I have been watching Daredevil and I am really enjoying it. We watch 2 or 3 episodes every couple of days and it just keeps getting better. I like all of the characters even though in general I can’t stand the actress that plays Karen (because she annoyed me so much in True Blood
) lol. Other than that I continue watching and look forward to the fight sequences. I don’t want it to end but once it does a have a gazillion shows on the DVR that need to be watched – I try my best to keep it under 87% but that never lasts very long. I will get to them eventually. Thanks to Google Chromecast we can watch Netflix on our awesome TV instead of a the small laptop screen.

One thing that I have been doing better this time around (when it comes to working) is bringing a home lunch. I used to spend so much of my hard earned money every week on lunches (and sometimes snacks or coffee.) I have been pretty good at remembering to make lunches (and actually remembering to bring them with me.) I do intend on spending a little time looking up some creative lunches on Pinterest so that I am not always eating the same boring thing everyday. Let me know what your favorite home lunches are.

Rowling (she got fired from her job from writing too much) and Hugh Jackman (he got fired from his job for talking too much.) It was a great read and an excellent reminder to just keep going.

Book Review: Satellite, The Satellite Trilogy Part I by Lee Davidson

This eBook was given to me in exchange for an honest book review of it on my blog. This review is my honest opinion of the book and I was in no way compensated in exchange for a positive review. Some of the links below may contain affiliate links in which I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you if you decide to purchase the book.
Book: Satellite, The Satellite Trilogy Part I
Author: Lee Davidson

Satellite Triology Lee DavidsonThe beginning of this story was a slow read, however, once I got into it I really enjoyed it. The more that I read, the deeper that it pulled me in. It speaks from the view of a man in the afterlife and uncovers the love and longing that he has for the woman that he left behind. He wants so much to live on in human form and is not concerned about the consequences he may face if he attempts to connect with her. As a Satellite or Guardian Angel, he is given responsibilities and he has little to no concern towards the consequences he may face if he ignores them. There is a major plot twist that I didn’t really see coming and it was a nice surprise.

As far as characters go, I really liked them – even the stubborn main character, Grant, who is a mans-man. He is not very in touch with his feelings and I think I would have liked him a lot more if he was. I feel like his feelings were being buried and if they had been revealed I would have probably been in tears after reading this book.

I enjoyed the plot, however, I do think that it was missing information about actually being a Satellite. I am not sure if the other books cover this but I think that there was some potential for a great story (within the story) about the paranormal world that Grant is thrust into. More background information about how they came to be and their history would have been really exciting to read about.

The ending really left me wanting more and I am very interested in reading the next book in the trilogy. I would love to see what happens next to Grant and the other characters. Also, I am hoping that the next book digs a bit deeper into the history of the Satellites. After reading Satellite, I really wanted to watch Ghost because it has that same feeling you get when the two lovers in the film want to be connected again and will do just about anything to do so. This book is a perfect read for a Friday night when you want to curl up and enjoy some hot tea.

Flashback Friday’s: Episode 9

flashback fridays

Is it really Friday again? Where did this week go? I have been feeling really exhausted lately mainly because my sleeping pattern has been really wonky lately. It got to the point where I would fall asleep with my phone in my hand while writing a text message or playing a game of Words With Friends. I am hoping this weekend I won’t have much to do so I can get some much needed rest and relaxation.

This week has been full of training at my new job so that is where most of my focus has been. I know, I know… you miss me being on Twitter 24/7 lol. I am really loving my new job and I have learned so many things in such a short amount of time.

In other news, I did manage to write a post about myself called the ABC’s of me. That was fun to do and I challenge you to do it if it sounds like something fun for you to do as well. Also my other blog grew another year older. It turned 5 years old this past weekend.

Going back to my wacky sleep schedule – there was something exciting that came from it and I think it will benefit me and the people that read my blog. During a tossing and turning fit one morning (at 4am) I happened to FINALLY be awake for the #SITSblogging Twitter chat (held 7am PST on Saturdays) and I stumbled upon some blogging accountability partners! I have always wanted at least 1 and I found 3!! My lucky 3 *wink wink*. We are going to help each other with our blogging goals and I am so excited to have found them. Make sure to check them out at their online homes:

+ Teresa at Embracing the Spectrum

+ Diana at This Imperfect Happiness

+ Anna at Hello, Handbag

So I guess lack of sleep is worth it (sometimes.)

Anywho, I hope y’all have a great weekend. What do you have planned for this weekend?

It’s Women’s History Month. There has been so many important women who have shaped the world. Who do you immediately think of when you think about women (past or present) who bring about change?

March is Women’s History Month and there are so many women that have done brave and inspiring things to change the world as we know it. Most of them do not get any credit and/or remain unnamed and often the ones that lucky enough to get any sort of recognition often end up receiving a lot of flak. For centuries women have faced mockery for their accomplishments because of double standards when it comes to men and women. Even with so many obstacles and lack of appreciation many of them push through and never give up on what they set out to do. (more…)

Flashback Friday’s: Episode 2

Hertaintedlips Flashback FridaysSweet Treats
I got to enjoy some Starbuck’s which is always a nice treat to have. It is even better when you get to use your gift cards instead of spending cash on it. Every Christmas I get at least 1 Starbuck’s gift card and this past Christmas I was blessed with 2. My usual drink is a Venti Caramel Macchiato, layered with extra caramel drizzle. Sometimes an extra shot if I need some extra energy.

Flashback Friday’s: Episode 1

Hertaintedlips Flashback FridaysI enjoy sharing my personal experiences and discoveries with others in the hopes that it will inspire, help, entertain and/or inform them. I also absolutely love it when others do the same. The internet makes this a million times easier. Sometimes I will post on Facebook or Twitter and other times I will write a blog post. I thought it would be a fun idea to collect some experiences and discoveries that I have had during the week and summarize it for y’all here ever Friday. So here it is.

Flashback Friday’s: Episode 1
Family Time
On Sunday I got to spend time with family for most of the day. It was really nice to just hang out and enjoy their company. I always enjoy the time that we do get together and I always look forward to it. The adults talked, laughed and enjoyed some snacks together while the kiddles enjoyed some cartoons. I finally got to try the sour apple slurpee from 7-Eleven and it was delicious!

Becoming a Social Media Pro
Fast forward to Tuesday>>> I was going to different blogs and looking up tips and tricks on blogging like I normally do and I landed on Regina’s blog. She had so many wonderfully useful articles that I read a few of them and immediately subscribed and bookmarked her site. The next day I went back because I wanted to look around again and she had a new blog post just waiting to be devoured. It wasn’t just any blog post though it was a post about 33 Ways To Get Serious About Social Media. Her post is jam-packed with gems. Please take some time out and read it if you are serious (or even if you’re just a little interested) about blogging and/or building a brand by effectively using Social Media. If you are already fairly experienced with using Social Media a lot of the tips are good reminders, however, she breaks everything up into delicious chunks and offers so many great tips & tricks to take your Social Media expertise to another level.

Bake Sale & Game Time
Wednesday I spent some time editing blog posts (including this one) and baking cookies with my sister for a bake sale. I got to get a taste of all the baked goodies that were sold. Spiced brownies, chocolate chip cookies, coconut cookies, peanut butter brownies and rice crispy treats. Everything was absolutely delicious and it was a huge success. The bake sale was to raise funds for a Gaming Club at a local Community College. There were a ton of board and card games to play. I played Connect 4, King Of Tokyo (super fun game) and Apples to Apples. My sister won every game that she played!!

Gmail Inbox Zero… Not Yet
One of the things I have been working on lately is creating a more effective email system so that my inbox stays fairly empty and I can easily find what needs my attention right away. A couple of years ago I subscribed to a bunch of feeds and things just got out of control. I thought I would enjoy getting updates from my favorite websites, however, I never got around to really reading most of the emails. I found it easier to go to the websites when I had time to read or click on their Twitter link when they tweeted an update. I was so overwhelmed by all the clutter in my Gmail inbox that I basically stopped checking my email. I would log in and search for email from specific people (which were usually filtered into folders or labels thank goodness) and unsubscribe from as many subscriptions as I could. I have more than 1 email address but I wanted to get everything to come to my main Gmail account just to make life easier. I decided to take some time out and really tweak my Gmail inbox because enough was enough. Here is what I was able to accomplish:

♥ Mass deleted thousands and thousands of emails (over 30,000). I recently read someone cleaned out their inbox and they had nearly 100,000 emails to go through!!
♥ Unsubscribed from feeds and mailing lists that no longer serve me. I mostly used Unroll.me to make that process easier.
♥ Organized my labels to make my Gmail inbox work more efficiently for me.
♥ Worked on the filters to get the emails to go where I needed them go.

So far I am happy with the results. I will write a more detailed post about this topic later. I am so happy and no longer feel defeated.

Netflix Goodies
I always enjoy discovering shows I never watched before so when my sister suggested National Geographic’s 3-part series Brain Games I was excited to check it out. This series explores the brain and how it processes what it takes in. It includes a bunch of cool illusions and explanations of why we “see” things the way that we do.

Another cool series we watched was Stan Lee’s Superhumans. This series explore’s genetic mutations and the possible Superhuman abilities that may occur because of them. Both series are pretty cool and I enjoyed watching them.

What great things happened to you this week?

What are your favorite board or card games?

How organized is your Gmail inbox?

What series did you check out this week?
